Scientists have announced the risk of side effects with a massive revaccination from COVID-19

GMP News

Mass booster vaccination against COVID-19 can lead to side effects and is not necessary at this time. This is evidenced by a study published in the journal The Lancet, which was conducted by an international group of scientists, including staff from the WHO, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), scientists from Oxford, Washington and other universities.

The team also included, for example, WHO Chief Scientist Sumya Swaminathan and Michael Ryan, Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program. It is noted that the data are preliminary, and the article has not been reviewed.

Experts note that side effects with the introduction of booster doses can cause both mRNA vaccines and drugs based on adenovirus. Boosting too soon or too often can cause myocarditis - the same effect has been seen with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines - or Guillain-Barré syndrome with extra doses of AstraZeneca or Sputnik V.

According to the group of scientists, any decision to increase immunity in already vaccinated citizens "must be based on evidence and take into account the benefits and risks for individuals and society." It is noted that revaccination may be necessary for patients who have not developed antibodies after the main vaccination, as well as for people with weakened immunity. Moreover, if a person does not develop immunity after the first dose of the vaccine, then the effect of revaccination may not occur.

Last week, the head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called for an extension of the moratorium on revaccination against COVID-19 until the end of the year. This is necessary so that every country in the world can vaccinate at least 40% of its citizens. In July, WHO did not recommend revaccination due to lack of data on its effectiveness.
